BREAKING NEWS: Cigarettes cures asthma, Foul breath(WTF?), cough and more (…if you’re delusional or lived in the 18 hundreds)
October 23rd, 2008 Posted in random, wtf
It’s fun to think about how ignorant and/or stupid people were back in the past before they knew any better.
In the past religion was once thought to be real (there are still people unwilling to accept that one), the earth has been belived to be flat, cocaine was good for you, most women had a medical condition called “hysteria” which was cured this way. Heck, even a time where the world cured “crazy people” by drilling a hole in the person’s skull and cut a little bit in their brain to cure them of the crazies…no, it wasn’t the people drilling that were thought to be crazy….which is kinda crazy I think… I wonder what we in a hundred years will look back at with the same disbelief.
Anyway, the reason I’m writing this little piece is a fun fact my friends came up with while we were having a drink or two. He mentioned that, in the the Days of Yore (<= bonus question: from from TV series is that quote taken?), “doctor’s” used cigarettes for alleviate symptoms of the “dangerous” cough. Yup!! Toke up real good and you will stop coughing – and it’s true…of course if they were sold like that today there would be some pretty serious side effects warning messages on them. “Effectively treats cough symptoms”, but “…you will die a slow painful death”! What I find REALLY interesting on the Dr. Batty’s cigarette ad is that they cure foul breath? I think my girlfriend would disagree… Check out more old American cigarette ads by going here.
Ohh yeah, btw, I going on my 10th month without smoking a single cigarette. Sure, there’s been sacrifices such as coughing, because I am without a cure-all medcine such as cigarettes… :S
PS. Stop smoking!

There is still hope, scientists at Johns Hopkins have developed sugar-coated polymer strands that selectively kill off cells involved in triggering aggressive allergy and asthma attacks http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/11/091119194126.htm I for one would appreciate enjoying a nice day outdoors without worrying about my pollen allergy.
