…a rough view

my iPhone continues its set path to become completely useless and non-functioning…in small steps…in an effort to annoy as much as possible

I don’t know if someone or someting is doing this to annoy me or it is fate laughing in my face, but my iPhone, whose internal organs is slowly ceasing to work, one feature at a time, has just lost another feature, the microphone which makes it increasingly difficult to find it useful (although it still works if I use an external microphone such as the headset which was included when I bought it)…

So let’s recap. I have an “iPhone” that:

  1. does not have a working external speaker (so no ring tone)
  2. Cannot sync anything with a computer (USB not working)
  3. Can only be charged in my Apple iPod HiFi speaker (so no use for traveling)
  4. and from this week, doesn’t have a working micrphone (so can’t be used as a phone….*sigh*)
  5. Doesn’t respect my authoritai!!!

Luckily, the apparent attraction of people towards the iPhone has nothing to do with the features above. See below what is a just representation

But I couldn’t stand it (and people found it weird that I picked up the phone, never said anyting and then I hung up on them, only to call them right back, so I took a very serious decision and went deep into my closet to bring back to the world, the once great, all reigning, Samsung D600 that my father in law gave lent me (God bless him).

But I know myself and I cannot settle for long with an old phone which gaget cred is humble at best. My girlfriend also laughed in my face when I told I “this old Samsung will do just fine”, and when I came home from work later that same day the first thing she asked was “did you get the 8G or 16G version?” or something similar :S Anyway, she’s right (as she tends to be), which then begs the question: What should my next phone be (I estimate I can control my gadget craving until sometime in Q1 2009)? iPhone 3G? Blackberry Storm? Nokia Express Music 5800? Samsung Instinct? Google Phone? HTC Touch Diamond?

The most important factors influencing my decision (in order)

  • Battery time between charges with normal business use should be at least 2 days
  • Must have a decent browser to surf news
  • must have 3G
  • Must have a minimum of 4GB space for music and videos (SD cards is fine)
  • Must have facebook app
  • Must have a touch screen (but could also have QWERTY
  • Must not be thicker than 1.8cm (I don’t know either)
  • Should preferably be able to function as a modem

Do you have any good advice? (and yes I know the iPhone 3G fits the bill, but price here in Denmak keeps it balanced against the alternatives).
