Hi. I'm new to the media player stuff so don't really know much about them. However, I just purchased the Ultio and I love it. The fact that I don't have to keep changing DVDs for the kids is awesome. Another great thing is that is plays all my HD home videos. I haven't been able to play them anywhere (including my PS3) but this thing handles them like a charm. Oh, and did I mention I only paid $50 for it as the fellow I bought it from didn't like the DTS issues. I just thought "DT what?". Anyway, I can't comment about the bittorent and wireless stuff as I haven't used those (probably never will).

So if anyone has one they don't want anymore, I'll give you $50 for it.. Canadian.

I can only say that I m very happy with my Ultio. The only issue I found that bothered my was the fan noise (which for most seems not loud but I couldn't deal with it) so I simply run an e-sata drive to the internal drive connector and have disabled the fan. Pretty neat actually. I can see why the Xtreamer seems appealing. Size is right and it appears to play the same stuff as the Ultio. I'd still worry about the fan (small devices are hard to deal with) but that is probably minor. Unfortunately they don't sell them in Canada and it's just a gamble ordering from Europe. May or may not work...

Hope the marketing methods you describe have another side to the story. There seems to be some confusion between the various mvix countries. Perhaps it's related.

Good luck with the Xtreamer. Seems nice and the price is right (as is the slightly larger Ultio :) ).

I think your reasons are valid to why you are giving it back.. i also purchased a ultio and nubbin from thinkgeek assuming that it will all work nicely but failed..

I ended up using the nubbin for a laptop and just running an ethernet cable to my ultio until the new dongle that i got for $8 (that "apparently" works) reaches my doorstep.

Its been very harrowing but i guess you have to weigh the pros and cons.. and unfortunately there isnt a good enough forum to do that on the net..

(note: i dont use a HDD for this device so i cant comment on anything regarding the internal HDD)

good
- quality is great
- can handle any file i throw at it as far as filetype and file size goes which is the ultimate selling point.. (except bin/cue files.. but if you extract the DAT file from the Bin file you can play that)
- experienced no hiccups with connection speed through ethernet.. buffer is pretty good, file kept plays 1 minute after i unplugged the ethernet cord from the back before getting an error message.
- upnp works as should
- photos load quick and zoom function is impressive
- It connects to my NAS flawlessly (QNAP-219p)
- It handles subtitles as it should
- External dvd player is a godsend for all my data dvd's
- volume control on the remote (minor but a big plus)
- user interface is actually faster than i thought it was going to be.. you can use the arrow buttons to browse through directories fairly quick and use the next/prev buttons as page down/up functions
- various output options and tv displays is essential.

Bad
- You cant stretch the picture to avoid letterboxing on my 16:9 plasma tv (you can stretch video on the ultio with files that are 4:3 but you cant with files that are in 14:9 so letterboxing occurs)
- no thumbnails for photos
- no wireless for Wireless-N !!!
- graphical user interface has much to be desired.. it works but it has no charm
- inability to save folder directories to any shortcut menu for quick access to network directories.. so to access my video folder i have to go to "network>my shortcuts>my nas>my nas share>my video folder" everytime!! (Unless i go straight in through upnp but upnp doesnt play subtitle files)
-

I am on the verge of purchasing another ultio for my house as soon as i see what Mvix does with their next firmware release.. if they manage to fix the wireless problems or make any big changes.. (or even announce some future changes) then i might definitely continue to support their product.. I still remain dissapointed but hopeful in this product as their customer service is very quick and helpful in their response.. but like you said sometimes that doesnt even cut it..

bottom line.. i'll just have to see what the next firmware release does :)

good luck with your new device
