DÉT her er skræmmende. Jeg læste en (overraskende) velskrevet og spændende artikel på Ekstra Bladet’s hjemmeside omkring bandekrigene i Rio de Janiro og hvordan dette er et stort problem og hvordan banderne i Rio ejer forskellige bydele og “er loven” der.

Da jeg læste den synes jeg der var en skræmmende lighed med tilstandende i min egen baghave – Nørrebro her i København hvor jeg bor. Derfor tænkte jeg at jeg ville lave et lille eksperiment hvor jeg udskifter enkelte ord i artiklen og lader så dig min kære læser bedømme hvor stor forskel der reelt er når man ser objektivt på de tilstande der er.

Jeg har taget artikel på ekstrabladet og lavet følgende rettelser:

Den brutale bagside af København

Fra hotellet i Københavns fashionable København S-bydel med lækre restauranter og velhavende turister, der slænger sig i liggestole på stranden, er der kun tyve minutters kørsel i bil til en helt anden verden. En verden, der oser af fattigdom, slum og vold. En verden, hvor hver dag er en kamp for overlevelse. En verden, hvor de stærkeste narkobaroner og banderne med de største og fleste våben sætter dagsordenen. En verden med sine helt egne uskrevne regler. Og hvis disse regler brydes er der afregning ved kasse 1, i værste tilfælde den sikre død. Vi er på vej til Københavns største slumby, bydelen Nørrebro.

Vi er kun fire unge mænd plus Ekstra Bladets udsendte, der vover pelsen med et besøg i dette fascinerende univers, [...] (slettet tekst omkring en film) [...]

Vi har booket turen gennem en lokal guide, der har allieret sig med en bydels-guide, der selvfølgelig har betalt den regerende bande et vist pengebeløb for at få tilladelse til at gennemføre rundvisningen i bydelen.

Skyderi mellem bander og politi

Vi går i starten lidt forsigtigt ind i bydelen med nerverne uden på tøjet. Overalt i bydelen er stemningen lidt anspændt, fordi der samme morgen havde været en razzia med skududvekslinger mellem politiet og den ledende kriminelle bande.

Og allerede efter fem minutters gang råber guiden Mohammed: Her må i ikke fotografere. I må fotografere igen, når vi kommer rundt om hjørnet 100 meter længere op af vejen.

50 meter efter hjørnet er det så igen forbudt at fotografere. Og sådan bliver det bare ved. Vi får ingen sammenhængende forklaring. Men Mohammed har tilsyneladende kun tilladelse til rundvisning med fotografering i visse dele af favelaen. Og vi accepterer selvfølgelig hans ordrer uden modsigelser.

Er Nørrebro lige så skræmmende et sted som bydelene i Rio? Formentlig ikke (og jeg vil ikke nødvendigvis undersøge det i Februar/Marts næste år), men så stor forskel er der tilsyneladende heller ikke når man sammenligner objektivt. Eller hvad?

The HIDEit Mounts Team

Now naturally I want to show my new setup, but due to unforseen difficulties in setting the unit up, I am not finished yet. This is not because the HIDEit mount it difficult to mount on the wall, it’s really very easy, it’s only that my dad hasn’t come by and done it as fast I would have hoped. Yes, my dad i my personal craftsman. Whether it is plumbing, building new closets, wall paper….ing(?), or mounting of plastic on my walls, he’s the man. I highly recommend him – go to the BAD Contact page and give me an overview of what you need and I will discuss the matter with him (…).

Anyway, back to business. So before I didn’t anything, my whole setup was closer aligned to getting gadgets and features in the room than making everything look good. I have tried to illustrate it in the image below

The I finally managed to get my dad on board and we fixed the first part – getting the mounts up. This of course leaves a hell of a cable mess, but that is to be fixed when I (read: my dad) gets time to do it. I’m actually really looking forward to getting it done, since it’s been bugging me for years.

I will be sure to post the final final result when I around to fixing the last bit of cable mess by following this link when it becomes a link (or see below if I forget to update it).

On an additional note I would like to ask the HIDEit Mounts people to maybe consider making a wall mount for the Xtreamer media player, which is awesome (more on that in a post I’m writing concurrently with this one).

I’ll tell you. First off I took a train that stopped in Lyngby (the station before the one I had to go to) and I went out and waited at the station for the next train which were to stop at the station I were to get of off (my usual pattern). But the farce starts, and briefly it goes like this:

1. The train didn’t stop at the station and I am taken to the to Holte, two stations from where I’m supposed to be (DSB -1, me 0)
2. I switch off…like complete and don’t get off at Holte, but goes to Birkerød as I am deeply involved looking at my iPhone (DSB -1, me -1)
3. I have to wait 10minutes to take a train from Birkerød back to Holte to switch to the correct train that will stop in Sorgenfri (DSB -1, me -2
4. I wait for the train at Holte, but but but…the train to Sorgenfri (where I’m supposed to go) is cancelled (DSB -2, me -2)
5. Luckily another train that usually doesn’t stop at Sorgenfri is announced that it will stop at Sorgenfri, so I get….but it doesn’t and I am taken to Lyngby again… (DSB -3, me -2)
6. I wait another 6 minutes in Lyngby until I get in a train to Sorgenfri and arrive safely…..late (DSB -……just die already)

So fudge off DSB!!! You almost ruined my good mood… Also, why (oh why) do you, DSB planner, ALWAYS cancel the B line of trains and never ever the E line…try it…just once…all us who have to go to Sorgenfri hate you, DSB planner who decides to stick it to the man passengers to Sorgenfri.

It’s been a while since I made a rant and dissed something or someone, but a couple of weeks ago I fell over something which completely blew my mind (ed: this started being written in September last year, so it’ been coming for a while…still it needs to be said). Where you ask? On facebook of course. Someone has started a a group called (I translate freely as it is in Danish) “Eliminate or rebate the Media License Fee for students“ and the reasons were absurdly stupid and instead of giving the person who started the group sympathy for his cause, portrayed the individual as especially self-involved without an ability to look beyond their own nose tip and their own needs. I’m quite appalled to tell you the truth. I mean, you have to be sure your arguments are VERY well grounded when you receive thousand of dollars a year for free and then have the nerve to complain you aren’t getting more…and this person (obviously?!) did not/don’t have arguments.

Also, coincidentally, the group and its “mission” portrays one of the flaws of a “welfare society” such as the Danish one, where the State ensures “free” access to e.g. education, because the people of the receiving side of such “free” goods (in this case, the receivers are the students) value the the goods as having no value and thus take them for granted, illustrated quite effectively by the mission for the group.

Let’s investigate the issue (warning, it’s looooong and boring…)

SITUATION

But before I show you just show spoiled the people who support the cause are and how groundless the arguments used to argue the cause are, let me just explain about what the Danish “media license fee” (called licens in Danish) is. Basically licens’s purpose is part of the bigger umbrella purpose stemming from the “financial media aid” (mediestøtte)’s purpose, which is to ensure and strengthen the democratic debate in the society by make information generally available, affordable and pervasive for everybody in the society without interference from the government (ensuring free press really).

Licens costs ~$500/year (~42/month) and is to be paid by anyone who who owns a TV, computer or phone that can receive a TV signal (so basically everyone in the country).

COMPLICATION

Alright, to be clear from the start, the problem the group is based upon  is NOT that you have to pay this licens (that’s another issue entirely…). The issue the facebook group is complaining about is that senior citizens, who are living off their saved-up pensions (their private ones and what they have saved up as part of paying taxes their whole life) gets a ~$250 yearly discount and that students should get this discount too.

The hinge breaks off completely right from the start when the group states that this is mainly because “of a similar (poor) economic foundation” between students and senior citizens. This might be true when you consider only one point (in this case the point that validates the groups complaint), but they are forgetting all the other factors which contributes to why senior citizens get the discount and the students do not. I could, just on top of my head come up with reasons such as “senior citizens have contributed to society by paying taxes and licens all their life” and “most senior citizens who receive the state paid pension actually paid for it themselves because of their life-long tax payment and thus the rebate, if fair, is paid by themselves”.Also, you could argue that students are probably bigger consumers of what is paid for os the licens. At any rate, the whole premise of the facebook group is void….

RESOLUTION

What a bunch of spoiled douches, who should be focusing their time and energy finishing their studies and start contributing to our society instead of finding time to demand more of the State who pours money into them without requiring anything in return (but certainly expecting a ROI) – if they stop studying they don’t have to pay anything back to the society they would then have mooched off of like leeches.

I should note that this doesn’t mean that I necessarily think paying license should even happen, but the arguments put forth in the facebook group just illustrates a generation (that I belong to, sadly), which doesn’t grasp what made Denmark one of the best places on earth to live in, and created what I would dub Generation Me, now Gimme, who feel entitled to the luxuries our parents and their parents created for us to enjoy!

This, I believe, is partly the Danish “welfare system”‘s fault because of the consequence it has on vital societal goods such as education and health care (basically that people don’t assign any value to them), which I will probably cover in a post sometime in the future, when I find the inspiration off of  something I read that triggers me enough….
